Such appearances by Musical Touken Ranbu on various broadcasting platforms are not only a very good indication of their rising popularity, but also the effect of the original Touken Ranbu game’s influence in reality, leading to fans of the game becoming interested in Japanese history and the actual swords themselves, prompting thousands of visitors to travel and visit museums in order to see those blades, sometimes even being the driving force behind recreation and reforging of lost swords like Hotarumaru and Yagen Toushirou. Musical Touken Ranbu has already performed in Paris and recently appeared in the Songs of Tokyo programme which showcased Japan’s popular artists to audience drawn in by the 2020 Olympics, which has begun to put a spotlight not only on Touken Ranbu’s Japanese fans, but also the international fans that support it from many different countries to make the franchise what it is today.

MUSIC FAIR is a weekly music programme hosted by Fuji TV and is the longest-running music show in Japan, having been broadcasted since 1964. The programme invites and interviews popular artists who will also perform briefly, and Musical Touken Ranbu was invited this time, along with fellow guests Dean Fujioka, DA PUMP and the Backstreet Boys.
The featured Touken Danshi performed “Touken Ranbu” and were mentioned to have participated in NHK Kouhaku, as well as having been in DA PUMP’s “USA” performance at the time. In introducing the franchise, it appeared that this formation was chosen based on the swords’ individual fame, which would in turn help audiences to recognise and remember them. Hizamaru also carried out a brief demonstration of his sword-wielding skills!
